Entire FTP Directory

The files found at this site are ArcView shape file coverages and jpegs from the USGS Archives. The yearly folders and the jpegs are stored in tar.gz (zipped) or winzip formats for fast downloads. To unzip after downloading Winzip or UNIX's g.unzip may be used. The shape files were created in ESRI's ArcView 3.2, and can be viewed with ArcView 3.2, and with ARCMAP 9x programs. Individual jpegs may be opened without downloading, or they may be downloaded at the folder or file levels.

LANDSAT (1 - 5 & 7) - These files show the number of scenes, or richness, of coverage on each path/row in yearly increments in separate folders. In each year's folder is another set of folders, each of which shows richness limited by cloud_cover, in 10 percent increments from "less than 10%" (0 - 9 percent cloud_cover) to "less than 50%" (0 - 49 percent cloud_cover), and "up to 100%" (all cloud_covers) to show complete coverage. These folders include the .shp, .shx and .dbf files necessary to view and work with the ArcView project in that folder.

The jpeg images are available in the jpegs folder under each sensor group. A complete series (by year) of jpegs have been created at "less than 30%"; "less than 50%"; and "best cc" (cloud_cover).

LANDSAT & SPOT Coverage Power Point Slide Shows - These power point slide shows (.ppt) display footprints of coverage by four quarterly periods (Dec - Feb, Mar - May, Jun - Aug, Sep - Nov), annually (Yearly), and annually by quarters (Seasons). The collections represented are from the USGS and the IGS (International Ground Stations). SPOT scenes shown are in the EDC data collection.

The requirements for inclusion of a given scene in a plot were less than 30 per cent cloud cover and a "fair" quality rating or better (5 or greater).

The power points are loaded in a normal format.

Declassified Intelligence Satellite Photography - The Declass1 coverages show footprints of that coverage by sensor type and by year. Because there was no systematic application of a flight plan (such as the Landsat Path/Row system) in the Declass 1 program, ArcView files and the jpegs only show coverage, there is no true 'richness' shown.

The Declass 2 coverage shows footprints of the coverage of Medium Resolution and High Resolution Declassified Satellite Photographic Imagery. The available High Resolution Imagery coverage is from 1963 to 1967, while the Medium Resolution Imagery shows available coverage from 1973 - 1980. The Arc shapefiles and jpegs show coverage by year.
