The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) EROS Data Center is government-owned/directed and contractor-operated. The work of the Data Center is carried out through a number of mission-support contracts with industry. The largest contract, the Technical Support Services Contract, is held by Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). Its purpose is to provide the USGS with support in the areas of science, engineering, and technical operations. Other USGS contracts provide support in the areas of satellite mission operations, facility operations and maintenance, custodial services, and physical security.

Our work as the TSSC is to provide support services to the Earth Resources Observation Systems (EROS) Data Center (EDC). EDC collects, archives, processes and distributes remotely sensed photographic and digital Earth science data. The work requirements are organized into the five broad work areas of the EDC (Computer Services, Data Services, Satellite Systems, Science and Applications, and Center Services). Types of positions with the TSSC include: computer operators, programmers, software engineers, network and systems engineers, database and systems administrators, satellite operators and engineers, technical support, customer support, graphic artists, photo lab technicians, technical writers, project managers, scientists, geographers, geologists, hydrologists, geophysicists, remote sensing scientists, and support personnel.

ATA Services, Inc.

Work performed at USGS EROS:

Financial Services Support Contract: Provides financial and accounting services in support of EROS project and center wide financial activities. Financial Services includes budgetary, project, financial systems, and technical and analytical support activities. Accounting Services provides support for EROS’ customer data sales. This includes customer accounting, billing, reconciliation and collections.

Security Contract: Provides 24/7 physical security coverage for 700 employees and 360 acres of rural property. This includes mobile, walking, stationary posts. Armed guards monitor building entry points, exterior property, building automation alarms and security camera system. Guards are qualified with handguns and shotguns and are required to maintain a concealed weapons permit. As first responders, security guards are Red Cross certified in First Aid, CPR, and A.E.D.
